Celebrating the Deity of Water

From the profound depths of the sacred cosmology of the Afrikan sphere comes the notion of the primeval waters known in ancient times as Nun. Emerging from divine water flow new life emerges and the essential nurturing of life begins. For without the flow of water humanity does not exist. The primal Nile valley river flows over four thousand miles in its great expanse of life giving, life sustaining, life nurturing substance etching its majestic presence within the landscape of magnificence – Afrika!   This, a testament to the supreme shaping might of the Creative force of the universe whose all-powerful divine ubiquitous energy flow is expressed through the substance that is most prevalent on the Earth’s surface and likewise the most prevalent substance in the human body. There is no doubt that waters from which the deity Hapi emerges yields the elevation of happiness in the Afrikan soul as water lifts life to become ever-more bountiful.

Much by way of interruption and disruption has been heaped upon the Afrikan by way of the Maafa (great disaster). Yet, the divine waters still flow over the earth and within every Afrikan on the planet in spiritual interconnected oneness. In times of climatic peace and harmony water is serene, a calm-filled yet inherently powerful energy. In time of climatic disturbance water rages in mighty uncontainable torrents striking fear in the hearts of any caught in its wake. So it is with the Afrikan soul steeped in peaceful harmony as the divine progenitors of humanity. But dare oppose that pinnacle civility, dare commit and perpetuate the heinous genocidal crime of enslavement, dare render falsehood and attempt to castrate the Afrikan from his or her true self and the divine essence of water-hood shall make itself known in the mighty enemy repelling torrents of oneness of an Afrikan tidal wave.

Certainly, the eternal consistency of water-flow in harmony with the divine universe is deeply reflected in the cycles of Afrikan life as it has been since time immemorial. From the increase of water presence during the gestation period to the use of water in the essential spiritual activity of libation in the honouring of those who have passed on. To this day you will see Afrikan people honour through libation, it is even expressed through music, ‘Pouring some liquor for the homie’. From monumental construction to communication and travel water flow for Afrikan people is fundamental to this magnificent spirit people throughout life’s expression.

The ever-presence of water ought not be overlooked for sacred Afrikan life. Its spiritual essence is manifest in various Afrikan deities in the grand continuum of the ancient to the present time. Today, a powerful name for the deity of water is that of Yemanja. With some variations in the name used, spelling or pronunciation this mighty deity is celebrated both on the continent and in the diaspora.  The great protector that sustained life through the inhuman onslaught of the Maafa. The life giver and nourisher of a multitude of independent free Afrikan societies (so-called Maroon) that the mighty spirit people brought to fruition.

The Afrikan is in no less need of the empowering force of Yemanja, in this time as the temporary disruption of the Maafa is brought to a halt, and into the eternal future beyond. In the Afrikan worldview what is experienced in the physical realm is at best only a reflection of that which is unseen. Therefore, as the body is cleansed with water in the physical realm so too must the Afrikan soul be cleansed with the spirit flow of water. The Afrikan must cleanse and rid him or herself of the ills of spiritual derailment and contamination that has been inflicted by their foes in whatever guise.

The deity of water is an Afrikan spiritual cleanser and as such the invocation of Yemanja is key within the realms of the Universal Royal Afrikan Nation (URAN). Here, this deity is revered (amongst much else) as a life-giving, life-sustaining, life-rejuvenating, life-elevating principle for Afrikan people. Yemanja’s divinity flows in every Afrikan man, woman and child to great enhancement as she is called in duty. The blue and white coloured waters flow to nourish the melanated Black of the marvellous spirit ones. The blue and white coloured waters flow throughout the precious Afrikan Red blood of the physical body. The blue and white coloured waters flow to nurture the pastures Green of Afrikan land. This is living RBG, the beautiful mission compelling colours of the Bendera ya Taifa (Flag of the Nation) designed by the supreme visionary Marcus Garvey.

Let Yemanja return to her rightful dignified status and place in the Afrikan power spirit pantheon. Now is the time to cast aside the bogus whitewashing, co-opting, culture vulturism or induced escapism of enemy forces and reclaim and preserve Afrikan deities in the absolute reality of their Afrikan home.

An important part of the Universal Royal Afrikan Nation (URAN) cultural calendar is the annual Yemanja Siku observance – the observance of divine waters in the nine month of the year. A day of ritual and ceremony to elevate the Afrikan spirit in celebration of this wonderful deity of water.
