Remembering Omowale Malcolm X

The Creator Supreme is all-knowing and Afrikan souls of the world have been bestowed upon with superlative knowingness from the Ultimate Divine. Remembrance is an important part of knowing. For the Afrikan it is recollection and rejuvenation of spirit. For the Afrikan it is the bringing forth of the best s/heroes of the Afrikan pantheon. For the Afrikan it is key in the process for restoration of self. For the Afrikan it is honouring the best of the Afrikan self. For Afrikan it reconnects the soul to higher purpose. For the Afrikan it is profound learning. For the Afrikan it is a part of spiritual and cultural  the life and example of this great hero. This great Heru. This great Ogun. Many recall his magnificent spirit. One such recollection comes from Omowale Malcolm X’s dedicated warrior follower and organiser in the OAAU, Herman Ferguson:

“Your honour, officers of this court, brothers, sisters, comrades, friends and enemies, I am a political prisoner who has been jailed for my political beliefs and activities during the violent period of the 1960s when [Afrikan] people were [fighting] for civil rights and equality in racist America. Many of us who were involved in that [fight] came under the influence and the teachings of [Omowale] Malcolm X, perhaps the greatest [Afrikan] man of this century. Fortunately, I was one of those persons. Your honour, it was brother Malcolm who exposed to us the historical reign of terror launched against Afrika by the European plunderers [beginning] several centuries ago. This illegal and unjust act of warfare culminated in the enslavement of a nation of [Afrikan] people who were brought in chains to the new world called America.

It was brother Malcolm who revealed to us the cultural, the social, the economic, the political, the psychological and the spiritual devastation to which our ancestors were subjected during more than 250 years of barbaric [enslavement]. It was brother Malcolm who defined our status as 20th century colonised people and it was brother Malcolm who shifted the focus of the [Afrikan] movement from the narrow goal of civil rights to the broad and more basic goal of human rights which America’s institutionalised racism and white [inadequacy] had systematically denied us - both during and after [chattel enslavement] down to the present time. Because of the hostility of the United States government towards [Afrikan] people, and because of the refusal of the United States government to extend the constitutional guarantees of justice and equality to us, Malcolm called for unity, self-determination and self-defence as prerequisites for the total liberation of our [Afrikan] colonised nation from the totalitarian control of the United States government”.

-

“He was the only leader in whom I had any confidence…I was a Malcolm follower. I believed in the things that Malcolm believed in and felt that if anyone had an answer to our problem as [Afrikan] people in this United States and in the world, Malcolm was the person who would have that solution to the problem. And I was prepared to follow him wherever he led me. And that’s why after Malcolm was assassinated, I felt it was my obligation to attempt to carry his message as far and as wide as I could carry it and do some of the things that he had taught us that needed to be done”.
