Remembering a Great Hero

Naturally, Afrikan souls from the earliest of times and throughout the ages have expressed themselves in their own language forms and ways of articulation. This is no happenstance, for this primary people are the exceptional pioneers of language and communication who by the grace of the Creator Supreme ushered this essential of life into being in the first place. It is therefore, of rightful normality for this soul people to utilise their own language forms to identify their own special times of the year. Thus, in the ancient world the observances such as that of Pert-En-Min (The Coming Forth of Min) was identified through the linguistic form of this people’s self-determined way. Of course, this is true throughout the history of Afrikan self-expression region to region and observance to observance.

Then unfortunately comes the devasting interruptions and disruptions of the Maafa of recent centuries where others that mean the Afrikan ill have sought to sever the Afrikan from natural linguistic continuity.

Wonderfully, Afrikan souls have made great efforts to remember, restore and utilise their own language in identifying their important times of year.   The powerful celebration of Kwanzaa is a mighty example. Indeed, the Us organ who pioneered Kwanzaa into being with its identifier of Kiswahili origin, also honoured a number of other observances with Kiswahili identifiers among them being a remembrance observance for the great hero Omowale Malcolm X.

Certainly, self-naming for Afrikan souls is a natural and fundamentally important activity that is energised with the value of Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) of the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles). Here, with emphasis placed on the necessity to ‘name ourselves’ speaks both to the self and things of the self. Hence, naming or identifying important times of year of Afrikan souls in Afrikan linguistic form is key and empowering.

In a contemporary world, where Afrikan souls can be faced with a barrage of expressions outside of their natural selves an empowering Afrikan word here. Or, an empowering Afrikan word there can go a long way in the imperative and victorious mission for ascension. If Afrikan souls had a wholesome ‘diet’ of their own words in the values they share, in their symbols of their own celebrations and in their identifying of their own special times of the year then an exquisite ‘cuisine’ of glorious victory is surely realised.

The wonderful reality is that progressive examples of creative restoration have given rise to such provision in readily accessible forms and can be accessed by the Afrikan world community as ongoing restoration takes place.

Yet, the Afrikan cannot restore (creatively or otherwise) what is not remembered. Here, only the Afrikan can restore self-memory. Hence, the powerful and prophetic words of the great hero Omowale Malcolm X in the approach to the time of remembering him ring out:

“Of all our studies history is best qualified to reward our research”.
