Garvey: Unconquerable Spirit of Liberty

Afrikan people are a great and powerful people, a people that have from the most ancient of times boldly delivered the highest forms of human cultivation and expression. For this great people to have been responsible for the magnificent outpouring of their holistic genius is without doubt a magnificent occurrence in the annals of history. However, the outpouring of this magnificence was in no way isolated at its point of emergence. On the contrary, the progressive, dynamic and the no less than divine developments were continuous and gave the world the most outstanding and long lived civilisations that have ever been known for the Nile Valley to the region of Great Zimbabwe. For thousands of years Afrikans astonished all onlookers who at best could only wish for such substance of being.
In recent times the sever and brutal interruptions by way of mass criminality in the form of enslavement, colonisation (amongst other insidious vehicles) have been a devastating scourge that continues to plague the world. As a result Afrikan people have been wickedly and intentionally taken away from their true-selves and physically displaced around the world. This period is known as the Maafa. Yet despite this recent and continuing period of evil intent and brutal imposition, Afrikan people were still able to bring to the fore their exceptional natural genius in pursuit and maintenance of liberty. This spirit was superbly exemplified in supreme form in the early so-called 20th century by the powerful and most magnanimous spirit and vision of Marcus Garvey.
Marcus Garvey ushered into the world the greatest most powerful and impacting world movement to lift the totality of Afrikan people from the vestiges of subjugation into the highest ideals of nationhood. He created and led the massive Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) built upon a Race First foundation and programme. This compelled the millions upon millions of members and supporters of the movement to work boldly and continually in the interest of and for the betterment of Afrikan people the world over. To describe the programme of the Garvey Movement as ‘comprehensive’ only begins to shed light on the totality and far reaching legacy of this enormous and world transforming body led by a supreme visionary. The Garvey Movement organised programmes of defence, education economic development, spiritual enrichment, self-governance and more – all within a progressive Afrikan frame of reference. The thrust and inspiration from this Movement is very much alive in the world today and many great ones have emerged from the immortal reverberations that it has delivered which continue to empower the fervent pursuit for Afrikan liberty and nationhood. In short, Marcus Garvey and the UNIA gave the Afrikan world a divine and powerfully progressive Black-print simply known as Garveyism.
Afrikan people have a great and mighty inheritance to claim, resurrect and imbibe from Marcus Garvey and the UNIA. There is no doubt that if the multitude of Afrikans around the world can again put substance to the rallying call of Afrika for the Afrikans Those at Home and Those Abroad! they will not only transform their lives but also secure the lives of those generations yet to come in the comfort, safety, empowerment, wealth, divine righteousness and stability of a world revered grand nation and the highest expressions of civilisation.
The inspirational, prophetic and mission compelling articulation of the great one himself highlights the substance of spirit that will surely resonate in the Afrikan soul for eternity. The indomitable message reverberates throughout the Afrikan world in everything from Afrikan victory to the supreme power of Afrikan divinity and the unconquerable spirit of liberty:
‘After my enemies are satisfied, in life or death. I shall come back to you to serve even as I have served before. In life I shall be the same, in death I shall be a terror to the foes of Afrikan liberty. If death has power, then count on me in death to be the real Marcus Garvey I would like to be… be assured that I shall never desert you and make your enemies triumph over you. If I die in Atlanta my work shall then only begin, but I shall live in the physical or spiritual to see the day of Afrika’s glory. When I am dead wrap the mantle of the Red, Black and Green around me, for in the new life I shall rise with God’s grace and blessing to lead the millions up the heights of triumph with the colours that you well know… Look for me in the whirlwind or the storm, look for me around you, for with God’s grace I will come and bring with me countless millions… to aid you in the fight for liberty, freedom and life.’
To study the pinnacle example of Marcus Garvey is key for Afrikan Afrikan ascendancy. Whatever the endeavour for liberty and nationhood this tremendous legacy is beyond the bogus intellectual processing mis-engineered by anti-Afrikan forces - this is a spirit to imbibe - Afrikan spirit of ascendancy. So much so that the degree to which the spirit mission of Garvey is made real lives of Afrikan souls is the degree to which global liberty and nationhood is manifest for this mighty people.
Within the Universal Royal Afrikan Nation (URAN) the powerful legacy and example of this supreme hero is celebrated in the cultural observance of Musa Msimu which takes place during the month of so-called August. However, so vital is this work that Garvey’s spirit permeates the work for liberty and nationhood as a whole. Amongst so much else, Garvey established exemplary examples of Afrikan economic institution building in the context of liberty and nationhood. Here standards were set for economic growth for the betterment of Afrikan souls worldwide with a clear empowerment agenda of asserting the Afrikan self as opposed to the enemy imposed shackle of self-denial in pursuit of pseudo economic rewards. The Garvey Movement also demonstrated the spiritual cultural core of Afrikan life is not to be discarded in whatever aspect of life’s unfolding including the area of economic development. Spirit gives life to life and so the spirit people must be themselves. Hence his profound articulation of ‘Be Black! Buy Black! Think Black! and all else will take care of itself’.
In the hostile environments that Afrikan people have been hurled into their time, resources and energies have and continue to be viciously and criminally hijacked by others. The Afrikan must be rid the criminal on his or her back. There ought then to be effort on the part of every Afrikan soul to bring the ideal of Being Afrikan! Buying Afrikan and Thinking Afrikan! to fruition. After all, 'economics is embedded within the culture'. Hence why enemy forces seek to derail Afrikan spiritual and cultural form.
On the first Saturday of so-called June URAN established the observance Ujamaa Kiburi Siku to imbibe the spirit of Afrikan ascendancy for economic development of the Afrikan self. This is a spiritual cultural mission invoking the Afrikan spirit force for economic growth in which Afrikan people are encouraged to work amongst their own in the essential light of self-betterment for this marvellous spirit people through trade, service delivery and otherwise.
URAN is an inheritor of the divine spirit of Afrikan liberty – the imperative spirit of liberty – the unconquerable spirit of liberty.
