Celebrating Marcus Garvey and the Garvey Movement

The supreme visionary, Marcus Garvey knew the inherent power Afrikan souls have when progressively working in structured order of ascension. For Garvey, Afrikan organisation is a natural imperative and he articulated this in a number of different ways. Using the structure and selected elements of the organisational framework from the Master Plan of Chancellor Williams, the derivation can be detailed thus:

Spiritual-Cultural Order

Order of Self-Governance

Order of Economic Planning and Development

Order of Education

Order of Intelligence and Security

Order of Media and Communications

The great hero, Marcus Garvey powerfully and insightfully articulated the following in relation to the element of the Order of Self-Governance:

“as a people, we can expect very little from the efforts of present day statesmen of other races, in that their plans, (as far as advantages to be derived therefrom are concerned) are laid only in the interests of their own people and not in the interest of [Afrikans]; hence it is imperative that [Afrikans] as a people evolve just at this time a statesmanship sufficiently able to cope with the designs and movements that are being made”

”Rise to the intelligence of efficiency and self-determination – and discover yourselves as a capable people, a self-reliant race, determined to use your latent powers for your own progress and your own development, and you start out sincerely and honestly to do it. I believe that in another thirty-five to fifty years you may become leaders of this civilisation. You have the potential, you have the vast continent – Afrika, you have the scattered millions of our race in all the countries of the world coming in contact with science and technical, mechanical devices. You have the chance, all you want is the will to do, and dare others to stop you. This is my hope for you, and this is the fear other have for you. That is why they watch you so carefully that you may not get away with any progressive ideas, which would be a surprise to the world of theirs. Probably that is why I am dubbed ‘a dangerous man’. Because, I attempt to lead my race to progress, to a consciousness of its powers, from backwardness to usefulness for itself, and who is to tell what this may lead to – a shifting of power, a shifting of position – the man lowest down will rotate to the top position, it is the Will of [the Creator Supreme], because the [Afrikan] man is not vindictive, but benevolent and kind, the world will be a better place for all to live in and enjoy”.

“In a world of wolves one should go armed, and one of the most powerful defensive weapons within the reach of [Afrikans] is the practice of race first in all parts of the world”.

“we are determined to solve our own problem, by redeeming our [Fatherland and] Motherland Afrika from the hands of alien exploiters and found there a Government, a nation of our own, strong enough to lend protection to the members of our race scattered all over the world, and to compel the respect of the nations and races of the earth”.
