In the great cycles of the sacred universe there is eternal continuum. Yet the Creator Supreme wonderfully orchestrated occurrence to begin and also to close. As the sun rises to illuminate the world so too does the sun set only to rise again in its endless cycle of unfolding. The sun never ceases to be in its mighty energy flow whether seen by day or is unseen by night. Its rise and its setting mark progressive transition within the everlasting continuum of cyclical flow. So too it is in the eternal life of the marvellous and primary spirit ones of creation. Spirit never ceases to be in its mighty energy flow whether unseen in the realms of ethereal splendour or made manifest to energise the physical beingness of the most beautiful and most magnificent people of the world – Afrikans. Birthing of the Afrikan marks the physical coming to be and the Afrikan physically passing marks the holistic transition of return into the ethereal. This mighty people are eternal. The supreme visionary Marcus Garvey in the grand continuum of Afrikan life opened the way for Afrikan liberty and nationhood in a superlative way. With his physical passing his holistic purity of spirit continues lift the mission for global Afrikan ascendancy. Thus, in celebrating the life and works of this great one and the great Garveyite continuum during Musa Msimu there are annual cycles of ritualised opening and ritualised close. The close marking the transition of spirit beyond the observance period to energise Afrikan life, to again meet ritual opening a year hence. The Kiswahili word for closing is Kufunga.

With the horrific disruption of the genocidal Maafa imposed upon the Afrikan in recent centuries by the barbarous foreign forces of anti-Afrikan agency, the attempt to bring a demonic and absolute conclusion to Afrikan life became the mission of the alien. The savage enemy sought to apply a synthetically manufactured and brutal onslaught of closure to natural living, the natural world and natural divine order. The impetus of the vile foreign brute to close every avenue of Afrikan flourishing and halt the natural and powerful Afrikan continuum has been a plague of dire pestilence that has left its horrendous scars upon the Afrikan soul and the entire globe.

As Afrikans in ever increasing numbers of brilliancy continue to open the way to and gain traction in the mission for global Afrikan ascendancy the spirit of the great Marcus Garvey is manifest and the Garveyite continuum is invigorated. Closure in absolute form must be brought to the foreign demonic ills of the world and the alien imposition of genocidal destruction. At the same time, ritualised cyclical closure for the Afrikan marks the transitional state in the grand cycle of continual ascendancy and the ritualised close for the observance of Musa Msimu is such a transitional juncture of ascendancy.

Metaphorically, a home has a main door to be opened for entry, within the abode are several other rooms with specific functioning each with its own doorway opened for entry and closed upon departure. The rooms are always present for functional use of the inhabitants whether the doors are opened or closed. Amongst other things, the doorway to the home maintains security and each room’s doorway provides internal safeguarding. This is not to say that Afrikan life is compartmentalised in any rigid or absolute way but to illustrate that an observance, ceremony and even ritual has its opening and its close. These are cycles of spiritually and culturally energising phenomena that are ever-present but are engaged with when necessary.

The closing ritual of Musa Msimu is (amongst much else) a safeguarding, energiser in the continuum of eternal Afrikan life. It represents the Afrikan deep knowingness of self with all of its parts. It is a transitional enlivener of all year round mission-compelling Afrikan duty and responsibility for victory secured.  It symbolises the closure absolute of alien ills. Kufunga is proper order for this spiritual and cultural gateway that marks the transition from one chapter of empowerment to the next.

The observance of Musa Msimu takes place during the month of so-called August and is a wonderful time to celebrate the mighty example of Marcus Garvey and the Movement that he created led in order for future generations of Afrikans to have their guide for complete freedom and nationhood.
