Remembering Omowale Malcolm X

The first people of creation in their unique and intimate connection with the Creator Supreme are naturally endowed with an abundance of spirit force. As such, the life of the Afrikan has a spiritual and cultural basis. Even in the context of hostile alien imposition the Afrikan spiritual base never ceases to be. Though, there are examples where it may be masked or cloaked in various guises due to circumstance or condition, Afrikan spiritual essence is eternal. The great hero Omowale Malcolm X walked in living knowingness of the Afrikans’ power to generate and govern wealth for themselves and why the restoration of Afrikan economy is vital in the imperative of organising for Afrikan ascendancy:

“The economic philosophy of Black Nationalism only means that we should own and operate and control the economy of our community. You would never – You can’t open up a Black store in a white community. White men won’t even patronise you. And he’s not wrong. He’s got sense enough to look out for himself. It’s you that don’t have sense to look out for yourself.

The white man is too intelligent to let someone else come and gain control of the economy of his community. But you will let anybody come in and control of the economy of your community. Control the housing, control the education, control the jobs, control the businesses, under the pretext that you want to integrate. No, you’re out of your mind.”

This is manifest in the value of Ujamaa. As self-determined economy is vital at the local level within the Afrikan community so too it is with the Afrikan at nation level.

“They have studied the tactics, the strategies and the methods of all of the Afrikan nations that have emerged and won their independence. And they have seen that the Afrikans didn’t get it by sitting in. They didn’t get it by waiting in. They didn’t get it by singing we shall overcome. They got it through Nationalism.”
