The Imperative of Self Reclamation

The first and most genius filled people of the world have been exceptional in the expression of themselves since time immemorial. The soul filled outcomes of the Afrikan spirit has been reflected throughout the entirety of their profound achievements that emerge as a major part of the central role they are naturally ascribed to hold within the sacred universe. One expression is language of the most sophisticated order. Whether ancient or more contemporary in time the outstanding spirit people continue to harness the power of language in vibrational rhythmic style, artistry and profound depths of meaning in the efficacious ways only they know how. From the deepest soulful oral expressions to the astounding tapestry of symbols expressed in the ancient Medu Netcher (divine word) and throughout the plethora of symbol sets that emanate from the Afrikan - the supreme greatness is undeniable.

Afrikan language symbols provide deep and profound depths of meaning. A powerful example of which is the symbol of Sankofa that emerges from the traditions of west Afrika. Sankofa is represented as a bird with its head turned towards its tail whilst holding an egg in its beak or as a type of heart shape with an accent of artistic curls. The summary popular meaning often expressed is ‘to go back and fetch. Such a definition can be likened to a descriptive title that provides merely a clue to the depth of meaning that Sankofa carries. More profoundly, it means to reclaim Afrikan history, spirit and culture in order to make the true divine self manifest. Assessing the past will allow for building upon the greatness and all of the magnificent strengths and achievements of the then, learning from mistakes and strengthening areas of weakness. The present time becomes clear and Afrikan souls are, in the now able to properly locate the themselves in time and space with the foundation of who and what they are. By extension, an informed and progressive path to the future can be envisioned and charted void of error repetition with firm and purposeful course and direction. This magnificent spiritual and cultural symbol is a most beautiful articulation of the organic continuum of Afrikan history – past, present and future.

From this single symbol comes the word ‘Sankofa’ and the emphasis on the value and importance of Afrikan history in both study and application. Here, cultural fabric makes history and learning an imperative facet of life beyond the false notions on ‘choice’ or as an optional activity of low significance – an ill-intentioned strategy imposed by anti-Afrikan forces. For the magnificent Afrikan soul knowledge of self is nothing short of a solid foundation to be made real in Afrikan life. Surely, the time is now for Afrikans throughout the world to pick up the mantle of responsibility to participate in independent Afrikan-centred learning in order that they may reach their maximum potential and their maximum capability.
